Unwritten & Unclaimed

Like the last chapter of the book,

I wish I could close you on a good note,

having learned something new.

Maybe I did,

and if I’m being honest,

I know I’m still learning.

Why did it hurt to say goodbye

when the only introduction you ever had

was to my body?

Why does my mind wander

to a heart that never knew me below the surface,

yet felt the need to stroke the currents of my ocean?

I wish I could’ve drowned you

so that you’d never find my shores.

In the end,

I realized you were only a traveler seeking solace,

and only my waters

could baptize the sins of you.

So consider yourself saved.
