Stare into the Sun

Last Sunday, I learned that eagles can fly higher than any bird. They can also stare directly into the sun. It made me reflect on how many species of birds exist on God’s green earth. I imagine that every species has its own unique feature, something that makes it special, something only it possesses.

I’m reminded that, similar to an eagle, we all possess distinct characteristics that make us stand out. One may even say it makes us special, and yes, it does indeed. God continues to illuminate how extraordinarily unique every person is. There is no one quite like you. There is no one quite like me. Even if others can do the same things and possess the same gifts I do, they carry them in their own special ways.

The saying “ comparison is the thief of joy” comes to mind when I consider how many times we tend to overlook the value in our own experiences and blessings. This comparison often stems from the idea that we lack something another individual or group has. To this I say: take inventory of what you already have and possess, from the simplest to the most complex. This won’t eliminate the feeling of missing or lacking something that you do not have, but it sure will remind you of what you have to be grateful for. Have you noticed how we never compare ourselves to someone who believe to possess less than what we have? Maybe you should.

Let’s start with the fact that you’re alive today. By God’s grace, you were able to draw your first breath.

When you’ve tasted the grief of losing someone you love, this statement is even more profound. If you’ve been there, imagine the last few moments. Did you ever think that would be the last?

“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”
— Meister Eckhart

Today, I am grateful that God blessed me with the gift of poetry. Enjoy this piece I wrote, and consider writing your own to this prompt.

Poetry Prompts: Starry Conversations

Imagine a dialogue between the stars and the night sky.

Weaving stories untold beneath fluorescent stars

We lay immersed in a sea of darkness

constellations carry us home when we call to the night sky

A dreamer’s kiss leaves love notes bathed in lapis lazuli clouds

here what I seek is always found
